Why You'll Love These Cinnamon Baking Chips

Cinnamon baking chips are sweet, spicy, and incredibly aromatic. Their magic lies in the ability to infuse your baked goods with that beloved cinnamon flavor. When you bite into something baked with cinnamon chips, you experience a burst of warm, comforting taste that's perfect for fall and winter treats. Aside from the awesome flavor profile, here are a few more reasons to love these cinnamon chips!

  • They don't contain corn syrup! We're all looking for healthier alternatives to the sweet treats that we love. Many cinnamon baking chips use corn syrup but these use maple syrup syrup instead!
  • They're super easy! They only contain 5 ingredients and only take a short amount of time to make.
  • These cinnamon chips are healthier than the store-bought alternative. It's always better when you know and can pronounce the ingredients in the things you are eating. You may never buy store bought again!

Ingredients

Ingredients to make homemade cinnamon baking chips.
  • Granulated Sugar: This is important for the sweetness of these baking chips. You can adjust the amount of sugar slightly to make these more or less sweet.
  • Cinnamon: What are cinnamon baking chips without cinnamon? But in all seriousness, you could substitute this for something similar such as pumpkin pie spice or chai spice and you would still get delicious baking chips!
  • Maple Syrup: This adds to the sweetness like the sugar but also helps get the correct texture. If you need to, you can substitute corn syrup.
  • Coconut Oil: This helps the structure of the cinnamon chips. If you need to, you can substitute vegetable shortening.
  • Vanilla Extract: This adds a little bit of flavoring. I recommend using pure vanilla extract over imitation vanilla extract if possible. You can substitute vanilla bean paste if you desire.

How to Make Homemade Cinnamon Baking Chips

Time needed: 25 minutes

Making homemade cinnamon baking chips is quick and easy. Here's how to do it!

  1. Preheat Oven

Start by preheating an oven to 225F. Line a small cookie sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Melt

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave to get it liquid form. I recommend doing this in 15 second increments.Melted coconut oil in a bowl.

  3. Mix

Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl until well combined.Ingredients for cinnamon baking chips combined in a bowl.

  4. Bake

Pour the mixture onto the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and press into a flat, even layer about ¼ inch thick. It is helpful to use a separate piece of parchment paper to flatten this down to avoid it sticking to your spoon or hands. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes.Patting baking chips into an even layer before baking.

  5. Cut

Allow the cinnamon chips to cool completely before cutting into small pieces to be used in your baked goods!Cutting cinnamon baking chips into small pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these cinnamon baking chips supposed to be hard?

No. These will have a softer texture and should essentially melt in your mouth. When you mix them into baked good they will easily break apart and will change the color of your batter to a more brown color because of how soft they are.

What is the Best Way to Store These?

It is best to store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also freeze them if you want to make them in bulk. I have had these sit for over a month and have been completely fine. I would recommend using them within 2 months if they are being refrigerated and 6 months if they have been frozen.
